Marty Vs. Vader

October 1997

October of last year was a very special month for The Mauler. After making his debut in the now defunct Fire Prowrestling Association (FPA), Marty had a tryout in a new up and coming federation called the HWA. The president of the league gave Marty a shot based solely on what he heard about him. His opponent was none other than Vader. Not many people are aware of this match since it was only a tryout dark match of a house card in the HWA. The Mauler wants to share with you some pictures of the match that gained him entry into the HWA.

 Starring directly into the eyes of Mastadon, Marty may have been a rookie but he didn't show any sign of intimidation.

The match momentum continued to change from the start, this alone was impressive for a rookie to go toe to toe with Vader. Marty the Mauler shocked a lot of people when he slammed Vader. The crowd was silent in disbelief. Marty began to pour on the offence.

Vader was as shocked as the rest of the crowd that someone who was a relative unknown managed to slam him. Vader began to make mistakes through frustration. This opened the door for a massive powerbomb from The Mauler.

Having Vader dazed and confused from several powerfull and devastating moves, The Mauler continued to pour on the offence rather than go for a pin. The Mauler wanted everyone to remember his name when they walked out of the arena that night. His tombstone piledriver helped to tattoo his name on the memory of fans and wrestlers alike.

It wasn't until the referee sounded the bell that The Mauler stopped attacking Vader. Vader required medical attention at the end of the match but did manage to walk to the locker room. He has gone on the record afterwards stating that 'Despite underestimating this kid... there is no denying that he has talent and will be a force in the business.'
